GESNERACEAE

Gesneraceae is an order of monopetalous exogens, the typical genus of which is Gesnera. There are many species, mostly natives of tropical and sub-tropical regions. They are shrubby herbs, often with tuberous rhizomes, and scarlet, violet, or blue flowers. Some of the genera are frequent in hothouses, such as Gloxinia, Achimenes, Gesnera, etc.
