Lycodontinae is a subfamily of reptiles of the family Colubridae (the Typical Snakes) of the sub-order Serpentes (Snakes). The subfamily contains about fifty-one genera and 325 species found mainly in Africa and Asia. They are small to medium sized snakes, distinguished by the arrangement of their teeth which include large recurved teeth designed for catching and holding prey which are arranged in groups at the front and back of the upper jaw and at the front of the lower jaw.
