The Skylark (Alauda arvensis) is a small Passerinebird found in the northern hemisphere and typically distinguishable by a long black claw toe. It is native to Britain and common throughout Europe and north and central Asia and is famous for its song and soaring flight. The Skylark is generally brown in colour streaked with black on the upper parts, and buffy white beneath. It measures about 18 cm in total length of which about 5 cm is the tail. Skylarks construct an open nest of dry grass placed in a slight depression scratched in the ground in which are laid three, four or five blotched grey and brown eggs. The food consists chiefly of seeds and insects. Research Skylark
