The sycamore (Sycomorus) also known as the great maple or false plane, is a genus of trees of the family Moraceae native to Europe and western Asia, introduced into Britain around 1551. They have a straight, erect, smooth trunk, large, spreading, symmetrical branches and large five-lobed, irregularly toothed leaves. In early spring the greenish flowers appear in long, drooping clusters, and are followed by winged seeds known as samaras of a reddish-green colour. The wood is used for making violins as well as furniture, dairy utensils and mangle rollers etc. Research Sycamore
