Cosimo de Medici was an Italian politician and banker. He was born in 1389 and died in 1464. He is generally regarded as the model for Machiavelli's The Prince. He dominated the government of Florence from 1434 and was a patron of the arts. He was succeeded by his inept son Piero de Medici. Research Cosimo de Medici
