Jean Baptiste le Moyne (Sieur de Bienville) was a French colonist. He was born in 1680 and died in 1765. He accompanied his brother to the Mississippi region of America and in 1701 assumed the direction of the colony of Louisiana. In 1713 he was appointed Lieutenant-Governor of the colony, and in 1718 Governor. In 1718 he founded New Orleans.
