JOHN HARVARD

John Harvard was an English-born American clergyman. He was born in 1607 at London and died in 1638. He was ordained a clergyman, but, being a Puritan, emigrated to New England in 1637 and became a freeman of the Massachusetts colony. At his death he bequeathed half of his property or about 750 pounds, and his entire library of 320 volumes, to the college which bears his name.
