JOSEPH BRANT

Joseph Brant was a chief of the Mohawk Indians. He was born in 1742 and died in 1807. He served in the British army during the American War of Independence. He was active in the massacre at Cherry Valley and at Minisink in 1779. In 1779 he led a tribe in St Leger's expedition against Fort Stanwix. After the war he helped the US Government negotiate treaties with the Indians.
