JOSEPH II

Joseph II was emperor of Germany. He was born in 1741 at Vienna and died in 1790. He was elected king of the Romans in 1764 and succeeded his father as emperor in 1765. Along with the sovereigns of Russia and Prussia, he signed the treaty by which Poland was divided among them in 1772. When his mother died in 1780 he obtained the Austrian throne.
