NATHANIEL BACON

Nathaniel Bacon was an English-born American revolutionary. He was born in 1630 and died in 1677. He became a planter in Virginia and a member of the Governor's council. Dissatisfied with Governor Berkeley's ability at protecting the settlers from Indian raids he led a revolt against the Governor, in the course of which Jamestown - the then capital of Virginia - was burned. The revolt was close to success when the sudden death of Nathaniel Bacon resulted in its total collapse.
