The Normans were the Scandinavian Norsemen who were granted Normandy by the king of France in 911, and adopted the French language and culture. During the 1lth and 12th centuries they conquered England, parts of Wales and Ireland, Southern Italy, Sicily, and Malta, settled in Scotland, and took a prominent part in the Crusades. After the 13th century, they ceased to exist as a distinct people. Research Normans
