OLIVER CROMWELL

Oliver Cromwell was protector of the commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland. He was born at Huntingdon in 1599 and died in 1658. During the English civil war he first served under the earl of Essex before reorganising the parliamentary army. He promoted the trial and execution of Charles I.
