The Probert Encyclopaedia of Actors

JAMES DEAN

James Dean (real name James Byron) was an American actor. He was born in 1931 and died in 1955 in a car crash. His moody performances and early death made him a lasting symbol of youthful rebelion. After studying at the University of California, he appeared in a few small bit parts before being signed by Warner Brothers in 1954. Thereafter he achieved fame starring in the 1955 'East of Eden', the 1955 'Rebel Without a Cause' and the 1956 ' Giant'.
