Kirk Douglas (real name Issur Danielovitch Demsky) is an American actor. He was born in 1916 at Amsterdam, New York. After being born into poverty he achieved an acting scholarship and attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before doing a little theatre and radio work before being given a screen test following the suggestion of friend Lauren Bacall.
