RICHARD TODD

Richard Todd is an Irish-born British actor, film producer and war hero. He was born in 1919 at Dublin. During the Second World War he suspended his theatre career to serve as a paratroop soldier with the British army, and was the first British paratroops to land on D-Day (he should have been first man-out of plane 33 but his pilot, being the senior flyer decided his plane should be the first one in). After the Second World War he went on to play as a leading man in various films, and was asked to play himself in the film 'The Longest Day, a role he declined instead preferring to play the role of Major John Howard.
