Frances Abington (born Frances Barton) was an English singer and actress. She was born in 1737 and died in 1815. First a flower seller, she became busker before a tavern reciter and making her acting debut in 1755 at the Haymarket before being invited to play at Drury Lane where she remained for eighteen years, creating the role of Lady Teazle in the original production of 'School for Scoundrels' in 1777.
