The Probert Encyclopaedia of Hindu Mythology

VEDAS

The Vedas is the oldest sacred literature of the Hindus. Written in Sanskrit, they are regarded as having been the work of poets who lived between 2000 and 1000 BC. They are divided into the Rig-Veda, Yajur-Veda, a collection of prayers, Sama-Veda, hymns for sacrificial occasions, and Atharva-Veda.
