Phenobarbital (Acro-lase, Barbidonna Elixir, Belladenal, Bellergal-S, Bronkotabs, Donnapine, Donnatal, Hyosophen, Kinesed, Levsin-PB, Lufyllin-EPG, Mudrane GG, Nembutal, Quadrinal, Rexatal, Solfoton Tedral) is an orally ingested or injected drug that depresses the sensory cortex, decreases motor activity, alters cerebellar function, and produces drowsiness, sedation and hypnosis. It is a respiratory depressant and ultimately, barbiturates interfere with the cortexs impulse transmission. It is used in medicine to reduce anxiety, nervous tension, and insomnia.
