Arno was the OGPU codename for Ernest Oldham, a British cipher clerk from the Foreign Office Communications Department who offered to spy for the Russians in 1929, and was subsequently recruited and retained through the seduction of his wife by his Soviet controller (Dmitri Bystroletov).
