ASSAULT ON STONO FERRY

The Assault on Stono Ferry was an unsuccessful American attack made on June the 20th, 1779. Lincoln's first attempt to dislodge the British at Charleston was made at Stono Ferry. Maitland's. 800 men offered a stout resistance to Lincoln's 1200 and the Americans retreated suffering heavy losses. Three days later the fort was evacuated.
