The Probert Encyclopaedia of Warfare

BATTLE OF CHESTNUT HILL

The Battle of Chestnut Hill was a sharp skirmish, on December the 4th, 1777, during the American War Of Independence between the British troops under Howe, and the Pennsylvania militia led by General James Irvine. The militia were routed and fled and Irvine was left wounded and in the hands of the British.
