BATTLE OF HANOVER COURT HOUSE

The Battle of Hanover Court House, Virginia was an engagement that occurred on May the 27th, 1863 during the American Civil War, between the rear ranks of Porter's column of McClellan's army and a Confederate brigade commanded by Branch. The latter attacked Morell's division with considerable success, but Porter, hearing the firing, immediately wheeled and came to the rescue. The Confederates retreated rapidly, leaving a large number of prisoners and small arms.
