BATTLE OF LAKE BORGNE

The Battle of Lake Borgne was a Naval Battle off the war of 1812. On December 14th 1812 Admiral Cochrane, with his fleet on its way to attack New Orleans, had his passage disputed by some small war-vessels, carrying in all 182 men and twenty-three guns, Lieutenant Jones commander. He at once sent sixty barges with 1200 men under Captain Lockyer to capture the American fleet. The engagement was long and desperate, but resulted in a victory for the British at an expense of 300 killed and wounded.
