The Battle of Lake George was an engagement of the French and Indian War, on August the 26th 1755. William Johnson, with about 2000 men, appeared at Lake George. His purpose was to advance upon Ticonderoga. Dieskau, the French commander, advanced with 1500 men to cut off Johnson's communications. A division sent out to prevent this was cut to pieces. The French followed the retreating force to Fort William Henry, but were repulsed. Johnson did not follow up his victory. Research Battle of Lake George
