BATTLE OF MOORE'S CREEK

The Battle of Moore's Creek was an engagement between opposing factions of colonists during the American War of Independence, and occurred on February the 27th, 1776 at Moore's Creek, North Carolina. Colonel Caswell, with 1000 militia, defeated 1600 loyalists, took 900 prisoners, 2000 stand of arms and 15,000 in gold. This victory was as inspiring in the South as Lexington had been in New England.
