BATTLE OF MORTIMER'S CROSS

The Battle of Mortimer's Cross occurred on the 2nd of February 1461 during the Wars of the Roses a few miles south of Wigmore. Edward, Duke of York defeated the Lancastrian force led by the Earl of Wiltshire and the Earl of Pembroke. The Yorkists pursued the defeated Lancastrian army sixteen miles to Hereford, capturing ten important prisoners, who were summarily executed at Hereford, including Owen Tudor, but the Earl of Wiltshire and the Earl of Pembroke both escaped.
