The Battle of Suvla Bay took place in August 8th 1915 during the Great War, when a landing was made by British troops of the 10th (Irish) Division under Sir Bryan Mahon, the 11th (Northern) Division under major-general Hammersley and the 53rd and 54th (Territorial) Divisions, the whole commanded by Sir F W Stopford, on the Gallipoli Peninsular with the object of capturing the Anafarta Hills dominating the Dardanelles while a separate operation by Anzacs took place on Safri Bay. The landings took place with little difficulty, but the attack on the Anafarta positions failed. Research Battle of Suvla Bay
