The Battle of Tewkesbury was fought on the 3rd of May 1471 during the Wars Of The Roses. After her defeat at Barnet, Queen Margaret joined the Lancastrian forces in the west and excluded from Gloucester, encamped on the slopes south of Tewkesbury in a strong position with the river Swillgate on the left. The duke of Somerset commanding an exhausted army of Yorkists led by Edward IV had followed the Lancastrians from Cirencester and attacked. The Lancastrians were soon routed, Prince Edward was killed and Queen Margaret captured. Research Battle of Tewkesbury
