BATTLE OF THE TIMOK

The Battle of the Timok was fought between the Bulgarians and the Serbians between October the 11th and October the 28th 1915. Although Bulgaria did not declare war on Serbia until October the 14th 1915, her troops, under Bogatcheff, were attacking the Serbians on the Timok three days before. With superior numbers Bogatcheff forced a crossing of the river, and directed one part of his army against Negotin, Zaichar and Kniashevatz, and the other against Pirot. At the outset the Serbians had the advantage, But the Bulgarians took Negotin on October the 23rd. The battle continued to rage throughout the district until Bogatcheff captured Zaichar and Kniashevatz on October the 28th. The Serbians then fell back to a new line, thus making possible a junction of the Bulgarian and Austro German forces.
