BATTLE OF TORGAU

The Battle of Torgau was a victory gained by the Prussians under Frederick the Great over the Austrians during the Seven Years' War. The Battle of Torgau was fought on November the 3rd 1760. Daun, the Austrian commander-in-chief had concentrated 64000 men and 400 guns in an entrenched camp at Torgau, Germany, and Frederick the Great determined to attack with his force of 45000 men. His plan for taking the camp from the rear miscarried, and he made little progress until sunset when his last reserves broke the Austrian line and caused a retreat. The battle cost the lives of in excess of 25000 men.
