M8

Picture of M8

The M8 (Greyhound as it was nicknamed by British forces) was an American light six-wheeled, turreted, armoured car of the Second World War produced from 1943 by Ford. The M8 was manned by a crew of four, protected by 8 mm thick armour, and armed with a 37 mm gun, a 7.62 mm machine-gun and a 0.5 inch anti-aircraft machine gun. The M8 had a top speed of 90 kmh and a range of 565 km. The M8 was originally designed as a wheeled tank destroyer, but it became apparent that the 37 mm gun would be ineffective and the design was amended to that of an armoured car.
