NEW MODEL

New Model was the name applied to the army of the Parliament after its reorganisation in 1645 on the model of Cromwell's famous regiment of Ironsides. It was then placed under the command of Sir Thomas Fiarfax, but it was soon found necessary to place Cromwell under him as lieutenant- general. The first triumph for the New Model was the Battle of Naseby in 1645.
