The Probert Encyclopaedia of Warfare

SEVEN YEARS WAR

The Seven Years War was the third period of the War of the Austrian Succession which was a dispute between Maria Theresa of Austria and Friedrich II of Prussia. The Seven Years War started in 1756 being fought between England and Prussia on the one side, and France and Austria on the other. A part of the war went on in India, and a part in America. The latter phase of it is in American history called the French and Indian War. The war was concluded by the Treaty of Paris in 1763, France losing Canada and Louisiana, and Silesia being handed over to Prussia.
