The Simonov SKS (Simonov SL Rifle) is a Russian gas-operated self-loading carbine developed in 1946 and chambered for the 7.62 mm cartridge which it takes from a 10-round integral box magazine and fires with a muzzle velocity of 735 meters-per-second to an effective range of 400 meters. The Simonov SKS has a 20.5-inch barrel, post foresight and tangent notch rearsight.
