THUNDERBIRD

Picture of Thunderbird

The De Havilland Thunderbird (officially code-named Red Shoes) was a large British surface-to-air-missile first issued in 1956 and eventually withdrawn from service in the 1970s. Thunderbird used semi-active radar homing and had a range of 75 km and was armed with a continuous rod packed with high-explosive which upon detonation propelled a big circle of spinning steel at the target, sawing it in half.
