The 405 Virus is a computer virus which infects .COM files. The virus is loaded into memory by executing an infected program. The virus corrupts program files by overwriting the first 405 bytes of a COM file in the current directory. If the length of the file to be infected is less than 405 bytes, the length is increased to 405. Due to coding errors, the virus unsuccessfully attempts to infect files in other than the current directory. The virus is not able to recognize an infected file. Thus it will re-infect a file again and again. However, because it overwrites the first 405 bytes, the infected files do not grow in size. It is similar to the Virus 1.1 published in Ralf Burger's book.

The 4096 Virus (Century Virus, IDF Virus, 100 Years Virus) is a memory- resident computer virus which uses stealth techniques to avoid detection and which infects .COM, .EXE and overlay files including COMMAND.COM adding 4096 bytes to their length. The virus is loaded into memory by executing an infected program and then affects the computer's runtime operation, corrupts program or overlay files and data files. Once the virus is resident in memory, the increase in length will not appear in a directory listing, and it will infect any executable file that is opened, including those opened with the COPY or XCOPY command. Through FAT manipulation, the virus destroys files through a slow cross linking process that would seem to be a hardware problem. If the virus is present in memory and you attempt to copy infected files, the new copy of the file will not be infected if the extension is neither COM nor EXE.

The 911 virus is a direct variant of the Armageddon the GREEK Virus, derived merely by changing the text within and the dialling string. The virus size is 1079 bytes, making the smallest carrier 1081 bytes. The main effect of the virus is to dial ' 911' every once in a while if a modem is present on com ports 1-4 (the original virus dialled the speaking clock in Greece). It is a memory resident virus which infects .COM files.
