Aran is a style of knitting associated with the people of the Aran Islands. It is characterised by hand-spun wool in a natural off-white colour which is knitted in cables, twists and bobbles into a centre front and two side panels giving an embossed effect. The true Aran knitting uses wool which retains its natural oils to aid waterproofing, and was used for fishermen's pullovers. Research Aran
