CARAVEL

A caravel is a light, round, old-fashioned ship, with a square poop, galley-rigged, formerly used in Turkey, Spain and Portugal.
The Portuguese caravel was a small vessel, about 23 meters long of about 60 tons displacement, carrying lateen sails and a crew of between 12 and 20. The three ships which composed the expedition of Columbus when he discovered America were modified Caravels (Caravel Redonda which were square rigged).
The Turkish caravel was a large vessel.
