The Cornwallis was an Indian escortsloop of 1383 tons displacement launched in 1917 as the British HMS Lychnis and sold to the Indian navy in 1921. The Cornwallis carried a complement of 119 and was powered by coal fuelled boilers providing a top speed of 16.5 knots. She was armed with three 4-inch guns; four 3-pdr guns and 12 smaller guns.
