The De Ruyter was a Dutch cruiser of 6450 tons displacement launched in 1935 and sunk off Java in February 1942 during the Second World War. The De Ruyter was powered by six Yarrow oil-burning boilers providing a top speed of 32 knots and a range of 8000 km at 12 knots. She was armed with seven 5.9 inch dual-purpose guns; ten 40 mm anti-aircraft guns in twin mountings; eight 12.7 mm anti-aircraft guns in twin mountings; eight machine-guns and carried two aircraft and a complement of 435.
