HMS Duke of Edinburgh was a British first class armoured cruiser of the Achilles Class of 13750 tons launched in 1904. She served in the Atlantic Fleet until 1913 and then joined the 1st CruiserSquadron in the Mediterranean Fleet. Seeing action during the Great War, she captured one merchant ship in the Red Sea in August 1914 and later took part in the abortive hunt for the Goeben and Breslau. After an extensive refit in 1916 she took part in the Battle Of Jutland and after Jutland, was transferred to the 2nd cruisersquadron. She underwent another refit in June 1917 and then served on the North American and West Indies Station from August to November 1918 before returning home to be paid off and sold for scrap in 1920. She had a top speed of 23 knots and carried a crew of 700. Armaments consisted of six 9.2 inch calibre Mk X main guns in single mounts; ten 6 inch calibre MkXI BL QF secondary guns in single barbette mounts; twenty 3-pdr Mk II anti-aircraft guns; eight Vickers 37 mm anti-aircraft guns; three 18 inch torpedoes.
