FRANKENTHAL

The Frankenthal is a German minesweeper class built for the German Navy between 1992 and 1998. The ship has an anti-surface and anti-air Bofors 40 mm gun which is capable of firing 330 rounds per minute; and the Stinger surface-to-air missile system in two quadruple Stinger missile launchers port and starboard. The ship is equipped with two MTU 16V 538 TB91 diesel engines each providing 2200 kW, with two shafts driving controllable pitch propellers. The engines provide a speed of 18 knots for high transit speed to the area of operations. For station keeping in mine hunting operations at low speed, the MJ332 propulsion is switched over to the electric motors and the ship' s high performance rudders are used for precision manoeuvring.
