GNEISENAU

The Gneisenau was a German Scharnhorst Class battleship of 26000 tons displacement launched in 1936, completed in 1938 and seriously damaged in April 1940 during the invasion of Norway. Contemporary reports claimed that the Gneisenau had been sunk, but she was only heavily damaged and was subsequently repaired. The Gneisenau was armed with nine 11-inch guns, twelve 5.9-inch guns, fourteen 4.1-inch guns and sixteen 37 mm anti-aircraft guns. She had a top speed of 27 knots and was manned by a crew of 1461.
