HUASCAR

The Huascar was a British-built Peruvian ironclad of 1870 tons displacement launched in 1865. In 1877 she was employed by revolutionists in semi-piratical operations, and was attacked off Ilo by two British warships but was neither taken nor disabled. Subsequently she surrendered to the government of Peru, which employed her in the war with Chile that began in 1879. She was captured by the Chilean navy at the Battle of Angamos on October the 8th 1879 and taken into Chilean service, serving during the Second World War as a coastal defence ship.
In 1940, the Huascar carried a complement of 135 and was armed with two 8 inch guns; three 4.7 inch guns and four 47 mm guns.
