HYDROFOIL

A hydrofoil is a wing-like structure designed to lift the hull of a moving vessel out of the water, so that it can travel faster. The term is also given to a boat equipped with such wing-like devices, such as several fast passenger ferries operating between the British mainland and the Isle of Wight and France.
