USS John C Calhoun is powered by a Westinghouse pressurised-water cooled S5W nuclear reactor providing a top speed of 25 knots dived. She carries a crew of 143 including 13 officers and is armed with 16 Lockheed Trident (C4) nuclear inter-continental ballistic missiles and four 21 inch Mk 65 bow torpedo tubes taking the Gould Mk 48 torpedo.
