A kayak is a type of canoe or boat originally used by the Innuit people of Greenland and later of Alaska. The Innuit or Eskimo kayak is about 5.5 metres long and 45 cm wide in the middle, tapering at both ends. It is about 30 cm deep. Without outriggers it is traditionally covered with skins, and closed at the top, with the exception of a hole in the middle where the boatman sits on the floor of the canoe and propels it with a paddle. Non-Innuit kayaks are typically made from glassfibre and are used in sports. Research Kayak
