LA ARGENTINA

The La Argentina was a British-built Argentinean training cruiser of 6000 tons displacement built by Vickers-Armstrongs at Barrow and launched in 1937 to replace the Presidente Sarmiento. The La Argentina was powered by four Yarrow oil fuelled boilers providing a top speed of 31 knots. She carried a complement of 556 plus 60 cadets and was armed with nine 6-inch guns; four 4-inch anti-aircraft guns; two 3-inch guns; four 3-pdr guns; eight 2-pdr anti-aircraft guns and six 21-inch torpedo tubes arranged in two triples. Two Supermarine Walrus amphibious flying boats were also carried.
