The Leone was an Italian Leone Class destroyer of 1526 tons displacement launched in 1923. The Leone was powered by four Yarrow oil-burning boilers providing a top speed of 35 knots, though by the outbreak of the Second World War the by then ageing engines could only manage a top speed in the region of 33 knots. She carried a complement of 201 and was armed with eight 4.7 inch guns; two 40 mm anti-aircraft guns; four machine-guns and four 21 inch torpedo tubes and carried between 60 and 100 mines for mine laying.
