The Latecoere Malafon is a French surface-to-surface and anti-submarine weapon developed during the mid to late 1950's and consisting of a 21-inch acoustic homing torpedo housed within an aeroplane configuration missile. The missile is ramp launched with the aid of two solid propellant boosters which fire for just three seconds, the remaining flight being a glide maintained at an altitude of 100 meters above sea level until the missile is within 800 meters of the target when the torpedo is jettisoned from the missile and homes in on its target. The Latecoere Malafon is 6 meters long, has a range of 18 km and has a speed of 830 kmh. Research Malafon
